From the recording Finally
From the album Finally with an older project - The Diction. Many of us in North America, including myself, live comfortable lives, where basic necessities are easily accessed. When I turn on the tap, water flows. When I feel sick, I go to a doctor (for free because I am Canadian). Sometimes in our comfort, it is easy to forget that not everyone around the world is so fortunate. That is what this song is about.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
Twelve years old and working already
He works fifteen steady
Lifting things twice his own weight
Ten cents is all that he makes
(Pre-Chorus 1)
Workplace hazards everywhere
Suggest a break he wouldn't dare
It just seems so unfair
(Chorus)
Why does everyone turn a blind eye
To those living deprived
All you got to do is try, try
An endless struggle just to get by
(Verse 2)
Don't worry little child
It will be a while
Before it takes its toll on you
The way it took your mother too
(Pre-Chorus 2)
He doesn't ask for much
But medication seems to
Be the thing he cannot touch
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Good governance and justice
Transparency to corruption
Human rights, immunization
Keys to a healthy nation
(Final Chorus)
Why does everyone turn a blind eye
To those living deprived
All you got to do is try, try
An endless struggle just to get by
Open up your mind to the turmoil
Listen to what seems to unfurl
Do something useful for this pearl
There still is hope for the new world
